End of an era

Just seen a post that Donald Featherstone had died yesterday in hospital following a fall at home.

Since he was my original inspiration though his book "Wargames" I hope he ends up in Wargamer's heaven with lots of toy soldiers.

  1. Sad news indeed. I shall raise a glass and a paintbrush to him this evening.

  3. Very sad. He had a book published earlier this year - amazing staying power!

  4. His books were where I started back in 1970s and I still read them on a regular basis, as I'm sure many do. He will live on that is for certain.

  5. It is RIP to a fellow who inspired many wargamers, who in their turn inspired other people... like me!

  7. A sad day for the hobby, I always loved his Solo Wargaming book in particular.
If immortality is measured by the lives you touch, he will indeed live on for many years to come.

Back in 1983 my introduction into the World of Wargaming was at the invite of a Workmate- my Friend- Bob Shore- with a Viking Skirmish Game of just a few of Bob's figures- to the Skirmish Rules designed and written by Donald Fetherstone. The Game was fascinating and spellbinding- I was hooked. Thankyou to Bob and Donald- last night we had a Tribute Game for Donald Fetherstone - a large 7YRS War Re-enactment of a Prussian vs Austrian Army Battle at my Friends Home - Lt.Col. Greg McCauley. Very Befitting.
