Berthier's busy

More Napoleonic French commanders, plus I couldn't resist working on the Berthier vignette from the Zvezda French HQ set.

Roman Transport

A traffic jam on the Fosseway (ancient Roman road in England)

Figures are the Strelets Roman Transport 2, plus a Italeri Roman command figure.

Napoleonic Russian Army Review

Given I'd just completed some generals I thought it was worth a review of my Russians to see what's still needed. (Don't forget to see a bigger picture right click on the image and open in a new tab. Otherwise it opens in Lightbox)

The complete army

The original infantry Paskevitch's 26th division, nearly 40 years old. Originally painted for a big Borodino bash at the Bath Wargames Club.

The "second" division, a mix of Guards, Grenadiers and Militia

The guns, being Russian, you need a lot of these. Original Airfix conversions to the left.

The heavy cavalry, three regiments each of cuirassiers and dragoons.

Light cavalry, three and a half regiments, hussars, cahsseurs and lancers, plus a single guard cossack regiment. Plus a horse battery.

The cossacks

A few more pictures

Certainly need to paint a few more commanders.

On the workbench - May 2013

I just ran out of time! My French commanders and Roman transport are almost finished, so expect to see them in the next few days.  The Sdkfz 251/3s and other DAK bits are also well underway. The net result is my paint station and surrounding area are looking decidedly empty. So what to do next?

  • More Napoleonic Prussian/Russian Commanders (I got another packet as part of a late birthday present from my daughter)
  • A British Paratroop Polsten gun and crew (picked up the gun from SHQ at Salute)
  • A couple more Ace kits, a Flak 30 and another 75mm Infantry gun
  • Both sets of Hat Crusader transport (these will probably take a while like the Roman transport and I just add odd colours when I remember them)
  • Start sorting out the medievals, I'll probably start with the cavalry.
Oh and 1/3 the way through the year and 568 items painted, so reasonable progress.

Napoleonic Prussian Commanders

continuing the command theme here are the Prussians from the Hat Mounted Officer set. They provide both an infantry and a Landwehr officer, but use the same horse pose for both! The litewka and soft cap was widely worn so the Landwehr officers can be used for any unit. Again I had a few other staff figures needing rebasing.

Napoleonic Russian Commanders

So the first of my new commanders are completed, a trio of Russians from the Hat Napoleonic Mounted Officers set. However I realised that my old Hinton commanders were in need of rebasing so I did them too, and then there was the collection of foot figures from the Strelets set and finally a few casualties as well.

The new Hat figures are the mounted ones on the right.

Oh shiney!

Popped into Modelzone, just to check the sale items and came away with a couple of Austin Tilly's in caunter camouflage, really nice.

The markings are for the 11th African Division in the Sudan 1941
