At last the SYW British Infantry are complete!

After a too long absence I have slowly recovered my health and painting mojo. Here are the the last two Seven Years War British Infantry regiments the 23rd and 51st Foot accompanied by the other two earlier painted regiments.

23rd Foot (although the facings are correct I didn't have enough mitres so the unit is mainly in tricornes)

I am also back to gaming again which cetainly raises the spirits!

SYW British Line Infantry - part 1

This is only part 1 as I only produced two out of the four planned British Line Infantry Regiments so far, there are the 20th and 25th regiments, who both have yellow facings, the 20th being paler.

The figures are Redbox Jacobite Rebellion British, which are well suited to the Seven Years War. The 20th are at the front in the bright morning sunshine.

WAS Bavarian Freikompanie Prielmayer

I needed some light troops for my Seven Years War Bavarians, so they could act as a stand alone force, but they didn't use them as part of the auxilary force provided to Austria. So I cast the net wider to the War of Austrian Succession, there were three at that time and I selected the Prielmayer Freikompanie. The uniform came up on a forum so I used it.

SYW Prussian Pioneers

Quite an unusual unit for my Seven Years War Prussian army, the short lived Pioneer regiment. It became the 49th fusilier regiment in 1758 see Kronoskaf for more details (link)

These were converted from the Revell Austrian artillery with fusilier hat swaps from the HaT Prussian infantry marching. Don't look too closely or you'll see the problem I had welding the two different plastics together.

SYW Hessian Infantry

While sorting out my British figures for the Seven Years War, I found that I still had some HaT SYW Prussian infantry figures in the stash. AS the British needed quite a bit of cleaning up they pre-empted them in the painting queue. They were painted as the Hesse-Kassel Erbprinz (yellow facings) and Ysenburg (buff) regiments.

Unfortunately the version of their flags with a white and red lion in the centre was not introduced until after the end of the SYW, so I just used the version with the Landgrave's cypher.

SYW Hanoverian Limbers

Finally finished a pair of Seven Years War Hanoverian limbers, I used the Revell Austrian limbers but painted them in Hanoverian colours. I added the ammunition boxes to the limber to make them look a bit different.

28mm Woodland Indians

It took a while, but I've now completed Warlord's plastic Woodland Indians, I tried to keep the colour scheme relatively simple.

I'm not completely happy with the final wash as I used the end of a bottle of AP Strong Tone and it dried a bit blotchy in place, but not bad enough to require repainting, phew!

At some point I will probably buy or print some American Militia to boost the limited numbers that I have at the moment

SYW Prussian Light Troops

A nice selection to round out my Seven Years War Prussian Army, the figures are all 3D printed and are slightly enlarged from my normal 20mm so that they match the Revell figures that I've used for the rest of the army.

Frontiersmen rebased

Here's the reason for my distraction. I decided on a game of Rebels and Patriots covering the Northwest Indian Wars 1785-1795. It needed some mounted skirmishers (Frontiersmen) and I remembered that I had some suitable figures from the Imex Lewis and Clark set. So they have been based and a unit each of foot and mounted skirmishers created.

Eastern Friendly Indians rebased

Another distraction was rebasing these Imex Eastern Friendly Indians, very much some background props for games. There also a few extra Indians from the Lewis and Clark set.

SYW Hanoverian Luckner's Hussars

It's been a while without any output as I've been on holiday, but now I'm back and trying to catch up with the backlog.

Part of clearing the stash, my last remaining Revell SYW Hussars were used to make Luckner's Hussars in the early uniform.

Jacobite Artillery

The matching set to the Strelets British Artillery provides the Jacobites and they are quite an non-uniform bunch. The guns provided were the same, but I have painted them red to represent possible weapons provided by the French

British Artillery for the '45

There is a lot of character in these Strelets artillery figures for the Jacobite uprising in 1745. The Royal Artillery was only really used for the close of the uprising at Culloden, and the artillery used before then was served by a mix of veterans and amateurs.

SYW Grenz Infantry

These figures are something that had been on my wishlist ever since Revell released its Seven Years War figures back on the late 90s and at last with 3D printing I can produce them. The basic figures have seperate torsos, arms and heads and I rapidly discovered that assembly would be a problem at 20mm. So I learnt how to pre-assemble them in 3D builder and although not perfect they are well good enough. The first pair of units are the Banal Grenz #1 and the Peterwardiner Ottocaner Grenz, which are quite distictive in their blue and red jackets.

It would be nice to find some mirliton heads so that I could do head swaps to build other units

Cavalry for the '45 and SYW

These are the new releases from Redbox for the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, but they will work just as well for the Seven Years War. I painted up 6 units from 4 boxes and by using a few Jacobite left overs added a trio of generals. Only Dragoons were present in the '45. The Horse was in Germany. Since I already had some cavalry I painted one as British and the other two as Hanovarian

9th Dragoons, not involved in the '45 but could replace the 11th that fought at Culloden if needed as it also had buff facings.

13th or Gardiner's Dragoons, performed appallingly at Prestonpans and not much better at Falkirk

14th or Hamilton’s Dragoons, didn't perform any better. Neither regiment participated at Culloden, but the 10th Dragoons who were there had yellow facings.

Jacobite cavalry

January seems to be the month for low output and I'm no exception, I lost my painting Mojo sometime after New Year and its only just begun to recover, I don't think all the tartan helped

But at least I have now painted the new Redbox Jacobite cavalry, plus Bonnie Prince Charlie and Lord Pitsligo.

I have already painted FitzJames cavalry and the Lifeguard using the old Revell figures so I now have to becide what to do with them?

SYW Rot und Blau Wurtzberg Regiments

Apologies due to the distraction of my new 3D resin printer and understanding its software I have been remiss in posting my two new units for the Seven Years War, Rot (or Roth) and Blau Wurtzberg.
Rot Wurtzberg was particularly distinguished by its defence of the chuch at Leuthen, until ousted by the Prussian Guard.
The figures are a mix of the old Revell and the new HaT Austrians

Austrian Pioneers for the Seven Years War

It's a bit unclear which unit I have represented as Project SYW says they are the Pioneer Korps, the text in my Osprey book says they are Pioneers, but the illustration says they are Sappeurs. I'm going to call them Pioneers.

The figures are Revell SYW Austrian artillery with head swaps from the HaT Austrian Chevaulegers.

The similarity between the Austrian casquet and the British Belgic Shako are quite striking.
